Ms. Katie Mount

For the past 17 years, Ms. Mount has served our students in progressive leadership
roles as counseling faculty, department chair, and administrator. A student-centered
advocate and collaborative leader, she brings extensive experience in student affairs
administration, academic counseling, and inclusive leadership.
As Acting Dean, Ms. Mount provides operational leadership for Counseling and Advising
and Student Life at Germantown. She also oversees the student conduct process and
the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT). At the institutional level, Ms. Mount contributes
as a strategic partner by leading a Strategic Plan Outcomes subgroup focused on strengthening
and aligning student support services across all campuses. Her leadership reflects
a deep commitment to equity, belonging, and student well-being.
Most recently, Ms. Mount served as Associate Dean of Student Affairs, where she chaired
the Germantown BIT and supported key collegewide offices, including Raptor Central,
Records and Registration, and Recruitment. She has been instrumental in advancing
initiatives such as Starfish to improve advising and retention, sustaining student
wellness programming, managing student appeals, and presenting at new student orientations
to ensure a smooth transition to college.
Previously, she served nearly a decade as Chair of Counseling, leading a team of faculty
counselors, managing budgets and course schedules, and contributing to institutional
change through Achieving the Dream, the Germantown Campus Council, the Chairs Group,
and multiple advisory and workgroups. In these roles, she championed student access,
mental health, and academic success. Earlier in her career, Ms. Mount worked as a
counselor and assistant professor, teaching Student Success (STSU) courses and supporting
students navigating academic, career, and personal challenges.
Throughout her career, Ms. Mount has exemplified collaborative leadership—breaking down silos, fostering collegewide partnerships, and cultivating trust among students, faculty, and staff—all while creating a strong sense of belonging at Montgomery College. Her work is driven by a passion for equity, access, and the transformative power of community colleges.
Ms. Mount holds a master of education in counseling and personnel services with a concentration in college student personnel from the University of Maryland. She is deeply committed to advancing holistic student success and building strong, inclusive communities at Montgomery College.
