TED 001 Methods of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

This course prepares students to become effective teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL/ESL). Through readings, lectures, discussions, demonstrations, classroom observations, presentations, and reflections, participants will explore both traditional and contemporary ESL teaching methods. The course also includes the development of a detailed lesson plan to apply learned techniques in practice.

TED 006 Assessment and Evaluation in the ESOL Classroom 

Prerequisite: TED001

Assessment plays a vital role in supporting English language learners and informing effective instruction. This course explores the purposes and principles of assessment and evaluation in the ESOL classroom—including how to document learner progress, identify special needs, and meet program accountability requirements. Participants will gain a clear understanding of what to assess, when and where to do it, why it matters, and how to implement effective evaluation strategies.

TED 007 Understanding Second Language Acquisition

Prerequisite: TED 001 

A basic understanding of language and linguistics is essential for delivering high-quality English language instruction. This course introduces the fundamental principles of language acquisition and deepens your insight into why specific instructional methods and techniques are effective in the ESOL classroom.

TED 008 Teaching Reading Skills to  ESOL Learners

Prerequisite: TED 001

Reading skills—from basic literacy to college-level proficiency—are essential for English language learners’ success. This course provides a foundation in how literacy is acquired and developed, equipping you with strategies to support your learners’ progress to higher literacy levels, no matter their starting point.

TED 009 Grammar and Linguistics Rules for an Integrated Approach to Adult ESOL

Prerequisite: TED 001

To effectively serve adult ESOL learners, it’s essential to grasp the underlying reasons behind English language structures. This course explores the formation of English grammar and provides practical approaches for explaining grammatical concepts clearly to your students.
